Hyosung Advanced Materials, a company that stands by marginalized groups throughout our society
Hyosung Advanced Materials has erected the “Dream Tree Small Library” in Chopo Elementary School in Jeonju, South Korea. The existing old library has been brought to new life again, with about 1,000 books newly donated to the place. The employees at the Jeonju plant enthusiastically lent a hand with the construction of the library, helping with the building’s interior arrangement and so on.
Hyosung Advanced Materials’ employees hold an athletic meet on Disability Day every year at a residential facility for disabled children and have some good times there. At the meet, a variety of athletic programs take place with each employee paired with a severely disabled child who usually has trouble taking outside activities, and afterwards, an activity is also conducted where the employees help the children eat.
Every year, the employees at the Ulsan plant visit Joongosan Village in Onyang-eup, a designated one-company one-village community, and help the villagers out by planting and harvesting rice along with them. Since the establishment of a one-company one-village sisterhood agreement with the village, we have been giving the villagers a helping hand every farming season, benefiting them greatly.
We constantly carry one-company one-river activities at our local workplaces. Our employees make constant efforts for the environmental cleanup of local communities, regularly visiting and cleaning up the rivers near their workplaces.
The employees at the Ulsan plant visit local children’s homes every year and provide the children with tenderly handmade food, as well as repairing the environmental facilities there.
Each year, we dispatch the Smile Expedition, an overseas medical corps volunteer group, to Dong Nai Province located in the vicinity of our Vietnamese subsidiary and provide the province’s approximately 1,800 denizens with free medical services. The Smile Expedition, inaugurated in 2011, not only provides general medical care but also visits nearby elementary schools and conducts basic health checkups and preventive dental health activities for the students.
Our Vietnamese subsidiary, Hyosung Veitnam Co., Ltd. was awarded the Minister of Planning and Investment Prize at Vietnam’s "Corporate Social Responsibility (CSR) Awards” held in December 2015. The winning of the award was in recognition of the variety of educational volunteer activities and cultural exchanges carried out by Hyosung in Vietnam, including dispatching overseas medical corps, the Smile Expedition, and collegiate volunteer group 'Hyosung Blue Challenger' as well as donating books and computers to local elementary schools.
Each year, Hyosung’s U.S. subsidiary, Hyosung USA invites US veterans who fought in the allied forces at the Korean War and their families and holds an event to appreciate their contribution to world peace. Located in the state of Alabama, which is home to a large number of Korean war veterans, Hyosung USA also donates scholarships to the Korean language courses at Alabama State University.
